Oklahoma Director's Credential

Oklahoma Director’s Credential (ODC)

The Oklahoma Director's Credential documents formal education in early childhood education, child development, school age education, and business/administration. It also documents experience in the child care field. 

Renewal of the Oklahoma Director's Credential is done annually with a minimum of 20 hours of job-related renewal training hours for Bronze and 30 hours for Copper, Silver, Gold, and Platinum credentials.

    NOTE: Entry Level Child Care Training-(ELCCT) cannot be used to meet level or renewal criteria.
  7. Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, Associate in Applied Science.
  8. Directors’ Leadership Academy is available through the Center for Early Childhood Professional Development (www.cecpd.org).
  9. The Certificate of Mastery in child development or early childhood education is a minimum 18-credit hour certificate awarded by an Oklahoma community college.
  10. Current Child Development Associate (CDA) or Certified Childcare Professional (CCP) credential.
  11. Certificate of Completion for directors and assistant directors is issued by the Scholars for Excellence in Child Care (www.okhighered.org/scholars/).
  12. Early Care and Education: Director’s Pathway to Program Administration is available through Oklahoma Career Technology Centers (www.okhighered.org/scholars/career-tech.shtml).
  13. Master Teacher or Director Competency Certificate only awarded by Oklahoma Department of Career Technology. Contact your local technology center for information.
  14. Approved administration/management credential, such as the National Administrator Credential (NAC).
  15. Training approved through the Oklahoma Professional Development Registry, with at least 10 clock-hours in any three management core knowledge areas: Educational Programming & Family Support; Personnel & Professional Self-Awareness; Staff Management & Human Relations; Leadership & Advocacy; Program Operation & Facilities Management; Legal Management; or Fiscal Management.

    NOTE: Completion of Director’s Entry Level Training (DELT) course meets 20 clock-hours of this requirement. Informal professional development is not counted toward meeting this requirement.

    Family Child Care Home Entry Level Training (FHELT), Director’s Entry Level Training (DELT), and Out-of-School Time Entry Level Training (OST-ELT) can only be counted one time toward renewal hours

Renewal

The Oklahoma Director's Credential is valid for 12 months.

Renewal of the Oklahoma Director's Credential requires participants to meet initial requirements of either the Bronze, Copper, Silver, Gold, or Platinum level, and complete the required number of job related renewal training hours. 

Do I have to renew my Oklahoma Director’s Credential?

  • If you are the director of a child care facility, you must have a current Oklahoma Director’s Credential to be in compliance with Oklahoma’s Child Care Licensing Requirements.  You will need to renew.​
  • ​If you are eligible for and wish to participate in CECPD’s Leadership Academy, you must have a current Oklahoma Director’s Credential.​
  • For all other Oklahoma Director’s Credential recipients, renewal is optional

What is the Oklahoma Director's Credential and why is it important?

The Oklahoma Director’s Credential verifies education, and early childhood experience to place a participant at a Bronze, Copper, Silver, Gold, or Platinum level.

The Oklahoma Director’s Credential is a minimum requirement for child care center directors and is renewable annually.

Is there a fee when applying for the Oklahoma Director's Credential?

There is no application fee.

Is there an application that I need to fill out?

Yes. You may apply online at www.okregistry.org or download a paper application on the Forms page.

Do I need to mail my application in to be processed?

If you are applying online, you will only need to mail in supporting education.

How long does it take to process my application?

Applications are processed in order by the date received. Please allow up to 30 business days from the date materials are received for correspondence from The Oklahoma Professional Development Registry.

Can I apply for an Oklahoma Director's Credential even though I'm not currently working in a facility?

Yes. Anyone may apply for an Oklahoma Director's Credential whether they are currently employed in a facility or not.

What documentation is needed for verification of the training I have?

  • College degrees and completed coursework must be shown on an official transcript. If you request an E-script, it must be sent directly to CECPD at cecpd@ou.edu.
  • Photocopies of a current Child Development Associate Credential (CDA), Child Care Professional certificate (CCP), and Oklahoma Competency Certificate (Master Teacher/Director)
  • Photocopies of training certificates if not already shown on your Learning Record
  • DHS Training logs are not accepted by The Oklahoma Registry as approved documentation

Why do I have to send in an official transcript and will I get it back?

If a participant has completed college coursework or earned a degree, an official transcript must be submitted to the Registry. All degrees and credit hours must articulate to a two- or four-year college or university.

If you need to send in a transcript from a college or university, please have the institution send an official electronic transcript directly to cecpd@ou.edu on your behalf. We cannot accept transcripts emailed from any other source. You can also mail in official transcripts. Official transcripts must be printed on official transcript paper, bear an authorized signature of the appropriate official at your institution, bear the institutional seal, and have any other security features intact. Transcripts received that do not meet these requirements will not be considered official. We do not require that they come in a sealed envelope.

Please note that official transcripts coming from the participant cannot be sent via fax or email.

All official transcripts must be kept securely on file with The Oklahoma Registry to verify training completed and coursework counted is valid.

How can I tell if my college courses for ECE/CD, SA, or ADMIN/MGMT are approved?

Approved Early Childhood Education (ECE/CD) School-Age (SA), and Administration/Management (ADMIN/MGMT) coursework can be viewed by clicking the Approved College Coursework link from the Oklahoma Director's Credential section of our website.

What if I have completed college courses for ECE/CD, SA, or ADMIN/MGMT that aren't listed on the Approved Coursework Listing?

Should a course not be listed and the individual would like to inquire if it meets requirements for ECE/CD, SA, or ADMIN/MGMT, the individual can provide the Center for Early Childhood Professional Development (CECPD) with written documentation to include a course syllabi and/or course description as provided by the higher education institution for review by Registry staff members.

Can I count the Entry Level Child Care Training (ELCCT) toward meeting the criteria for the Oklahoma Director's Credential?

No. The Oklahoma Registry does not recognize Entry Level Child Care Training (ELCCT) as an approved training needed to meet the Oklahoma Director's Credential criteria, nor is it approved as renewal hours for the Oklahoma Director's Credential.

Can I count Family Child Care, Director's, or Out-of-School Time Entry Level Training for the Oklahoma Director's Credential?

Yes. The Oklahoma Registry will recognize Family Child Care Home Entry Level Training (FHELT), Director's Entry Level Training (DELT), and Out-of-School Time Entry Level Training (OST-ELT) as approved training. Each course may be counted as valid training only one time.

What can count toward the Bronze credential as an approved administration/management credential?

The National Administrator's Credential (NAC) and the Aim4ExcellenceTM Online National Director Credential are some examples.

What should I do if I've moved, changed my name or my place of employment?

To report any changes, you will need to log onto our online Registry and make the necessary changes or you can complete a Participant Update Form. This form can be found in the Forms section. Participants may mail or fax this form to the Registry staff to make any changes requested.

I have a current ODC, but have recently completed coursework that I would like to have shown on my training record. How can I do that?

Training taken from a Registry approved organization or CECPD approved educator will added to a participant's training record within 2 weeks of course completion by the educator or organization approved staff.

All other training can be submitted to the Oklahoma Registry with an Education Update Form (downloadable from the Forms section of the ODC section of the website).

Instructions are listed on the Education Update Form regarding any Registry restrictions of using an Education Update Form. The form includes information on submitting training, including college level coursework.

Can my employer contact CECPD to make inquiries on my behalf?

The Registry will copy your director on emails sent to you regarding incomplete applications. We encourage you to contact the Registry because some information is protected, and we cannot share that with your employer.

Will I be notified when my Oklahoma Director's Credential is expiring?

Yes, renewal reminders will be sent to participants approximately 2 months prior to the Oklahoma Director's Credential expiration date.

Am I required to renew my Oklahoma Director's Credential?

Having a current Oklahoma Director's Credential is a minimum DHS requirement for directors of child care centers in Oklahoma.

Is there a fee when renewing my Oklahoma Director's Credential?

If your Oklahoma Director's Credential is current at the time your renewal application and materials are received, renewal hours will start the day after the issue date of your current Oklahoma Director's Credential.

If your Oklahoma Director's Credential has expired at the time your renewal application and materials are received, renewal hours will be counted 12 months back from your most recent renewal application.

Can I use college level coursework as renewal hours?

Yes, approved ECE/CD, SA, or ADMIN/MGMT courses can be counted toward meeting the ODC renewal criteria (shown on official transcripts)

1 credit hour equals 16 clock hours.

Do I have to send in an official transcript if I've already sent one in?

If you have completed college coursework or obtained a degree since you last applied for an Oklahoma Director's Credential, then you will need to submit an official transcript for verification.
