FAMILY CHILD CARE HOME (FCCH) LEADERSHIP ACADEMY

Join other FCCH providers for this unique training in business essentials!  

Beyond the daily interactions with children, your family child care home is also a business. Providers who use sound business practices encounter less stress and are more likely to continue in the field. This class is designed to help you establish and implement business practices that improve overall program quality, covering information on contracts and policies, recordkeeping and taxes, money management and retirement, marketing and community/parent relations, legal issues, and your role as an employer. Attend six Saturday sessions over a 6-month period and receive 42 hours of formal training credit. Registration Fee $150.

Application Requirements

  • Own or direct a licensed Family Child Care Home 
  • Commit to attending all 6 sessions and completing an initial Business Administration Scale (BAS) assessment prior to the completion of the final session and a follow-up BAS 12-18 months later 
  • Preference given to applicants that provide state subsidized child care 

  • Additional Information: 

    • Applicants accepted for the class who reside more than 60 miles from the training facility will be eligible for overnight lodging the Friday night before each training session at no cost to the participant. 
    • $750 Family Child Care Home Leadership Academy Stipend is available for applicants who have attended all sessions and complete an initial BAS assessment. ($400 for Academies started between July 1, 2019 and July 1, 2023). Applicants must meet eligibility requirements for this stipend program.  
    • The Business Administration Scale (BAS) is a tool used to evaluate the quality of business practices, designed specifically for Family Child Care Homes. By completing a BAS, programs can identify strengths and areas for improvement to enhance overall effectiveness and sustainability.
