Building Positive Relationships in the School-age Classroom

This course will show participants how to create a caring classroom community where children feel supported, safe, included and known in their school-age classrooms. School-age classrooms need to be active, engaging places where instruction centers on student thinking and where students can take risks and jump into learning at hand. The focus will be on showing participants how to provide rich opportunities to work together, grow ideas, and revise children's thinking.

We will focus on how to create an environment that will keep infants and children safe and healthy in child care. Information is aligned with licensing requirements.

Creating a Landscape to Learning: Appropriate Indoor/Outdoor Learning Environments

Participants will learn how an infant/toddler learning environment should be designed to enhance relationships and learning by developing competencies through movement, exploration, and appropriate challenges.

Creating a Positive Social Emotional Climate in Infant/Toddler Care Settings

When teachers develop a positive social and emotional climate in the care setting and provide nurturing relationships, young children feel more secure in the environment and are more likely to feel comfortable learning and growing. Such relationships are likely to lead to a more emotionally secure and independent child, which will help foster success in school.

Encouraging Peer Interactions in Preschool

Participants will be introduced to strategies for supporting the development of peer interactions in the preschool classroom. The course also covers ways for teachers to help children learn anger management and problem-solving skills.

Guidance Matters: Challenging Behaviors and the Role of the Preschool Teacher

Positive Behavior Support, or PBS, is a means to understand and address a child’s persistent challenging behavior. Participants will understand the process of Positive Behavior Support, including strategies for preventing challenging behavior and replacement skills.

Homelessness and Young Children: Education and Services

This course is for administrators of early childhood centers. It will provide them with information and best practices to facilitate collaboration between child care programs and community organizations. The goal is to increase the provision of services to families with young children experiencing homelessness.

Participants will define homelessness according to McKinney-Vento and discover how homelessness affects a child's health and development. Participants will be provided guidance strategies to support young children experiencing homelessness.

Meeting the Challenge: Effective Strategies for Dealing with Challenging Behavior in School-age Children

Participants will be taught guidance skills that teach school-age children how to get along with others, how to express their feelings with words, and how-to problem solve in a positive way. They will learn skills to help children manage the feelings that cause them to act out.

Positive Guidance: Helping Children Learn Self-Discipline

The goal of positive guidance is to develop children's self-control, encourage children to assume responsibility, and assist children in making thoughtful decisions. Participants will be introduced to a relationship-based approach to more effectively prevent and manage challenging behavior, creating a more enjoyable learning environment.

Child Care Emergency Preparedness

This course will familiarize child care providers with the various emergencies that could occur in a child care program. It will help them implement strategies to safeguard children and adults in their program. This course will also help child care providers develop and implement an emergency plan for their child care program.

Oklahoma Early Learning Guidelines for Infants, Toddlers, and Twos*

This training consists of the Introduction and Implementation of the Oklahoma Early Learning Guidelines for Infants, Toddlers, and Twos. The overall goal is to integrate the Oklahoma Early Learning Guidelines into class curriculum. Details of the relationship between each content area of the Oklahoma Early Learning Guidelines and the Environment Rating scales are documented throughout the training.

Learning Guidelines for School-Age Children: Using Early Learning Guidelines and Oklahoma Academic Standards*

Teachers of school-age children will learn about lesson planning, curriculum development, and activity creation. Course content aligns with both the current Oklahoma Academic Standards and the Oklahoma Early Learning Guidelines for children ages three through five.

Reducing the Risk of SIDS/SUID in Child Care*

Core Competency Areas

This course provides risk reduction strategies for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and Sudden Unexplained Infant Death (SUID) in family homes, group homes, and child care centers by using safe sleep practices recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics and Oklahoma child care licensing. It will also help participants create a written policy and implement safe sleep practices in their programs and share and model best practices with the families they serve.

Child development describes how children grow. This training is an introduction to basic child development. It is framed in developmental stages. as this orientation seems most easily understood and used by caregivers.

Focuses on a variety of ways to encourage positive behavior in young children. It considers the provider as the key to guidance. The course outlines methods of direct and indirect guidance and methods for setting and maintaining rules. In addition, it describes common behavior problems, indicators of special needs and how to talk with adults about behavior problems. Interactions with Children (10 Hours)

The way that a caregiver manages children's behavior will determine the success children have in the learning environment.

The purpose of this training is to observe and understand how the child's behavior is affected by different factors that occur in his or her life.

Daily Program for Infants and Toddlers

Discusses stages of development and basic needs in nutrition, feeding, sleep, and toilet training. Suggests appropriate play activities and toys. Provides suggestions to construct a daily program schedule.

This course deals with everyday routines and program of group child care. The general concepts and practical procedures are discussed for children's health and safety. Learning and using good safety practices may literally change a child's life.
